The right floor for your living room - Living room by style

The living room is the centre of the house. It should be particularly warm and cosy here, we want to feel comfortable. Of course, we all have our own tastes and ideas about what constitutes cosiness. One person likes it light, another dark. Another prefers wood, another would like to have an elegant tiled floor. Sometimes it is minimalism that makes us feel at peace, sometimes it is many lovingly selected small decorative elements that determine the feel-good factor.

Country style living room - An idyllic home for those who love nature and cosiness

The country-style living room is a place full of cosiness and comfort. Inspired by rural houses and farms, it adds an idyllic touch to any home. With the use of natural materials such as wood, linen and clay, you create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

From the rustic dining table to the comfortable couch - every piece of furniture in country house style radiates naturalness and cosiness. The walls can be decorated with wood panelling or wallpaper in a floral, romantic or striped design, while pine wood flooring or natural stone-look tiles support the authentic flair. To create a harmonious balance between old and new, old pieces of furniture, for example from flea markets or antique shops, are combined with modern accessories such as lamps or cushions.

The country house style is perfect for those who love nature and tranquillity. With its warm and inviting atmosphere, it creates a home where you feel completely at ease.

Suitable decors are wood types from oak to beech to dark cherry - they are characterised by their characteristic grains, which harmonise excellently with the natural country house style.

If you want to go for tiles, you should opt for natural stone decors. In terms of colour, neutral tones such as grey or beige through to warm, earthy brown tones come into question: terracotta, limestone, slate or even the use of marble is excellent for the country-style living room.

Boho-Chic: trendige und gemütliche Atmosphäre für Ihr Wohnzimmer

Boho style is a casual and creative interior design style inspired by the bohemian lifestyle of the 1960s and 1970s. It is characterised by a colourful and adventurous aesthetic that combines different styles, patterns and textures.

Boho style often uses handmade or fancy pieces of furniture, such as rattan furniture, kilim rugs or poufs. The colour palette is colourful and contrasting, yet harmonious. A mix of different textiles, such as cotton, linen and silk, and cushions, blankets and curtains in different patterns contribute to the homely atmosphere. Go for natural and warm materials to create a cosy and casual atmosphere. Use your creativity and experiment with colours, patterns and textures to create your own distinctive look.

Suitable floor coverings for the boho style are, for example, woods such as teak, with its warm, golden-brown colour and light structure. You can reach for an acacia decor if you like it a little lighter. Pine wood, with its warm colour, is also ideal for use in a boho living room. Tiles made of natural stone in warm orange-brown tones or terracotta contribute to a cosy atmosphere.

Modern style living room - timeless aesthetics with feel-good character

The modern furnishing style is particularly suitable for people who value aesthetics and functionality and appreciate a stylish and contemporary living environment. It is a very open style in which there is a lot of freedom and scope for individual design.

The modern living room is characterised by straight lines and clear shapes that create an open and inviting atmosphere. The furniture pieces often have a minimalist shape and are made of modern materials such as steel, glass and plastic. In terms of colour, the focus is on a clear and simple palette of white, grey and other neutral tones.

Modern style often takes functionality and aesthetics into account in equal measure. Pieces of furniture often have a multi-purpose use and can be stored in a space-saving way. Modernly furnished living rooms also often combine several living areas in one. For example, an open kitchen can be integrated directly into the living area. Large windows and open living areas contribute to brightness and spaciousness.

When choosing the floor covering, go for neutral, light and clear colours. Decors made of maple, beech, birch or ash can be a good choice here. It is better to go for large-format planks. If you want to lay tiles, we recommend a marble or granite décor - the shades black, white or grey convey a particularly tidy, clean living feeling. Our XXL tiles create a feeling of spaciousness, can be laid as a floating floor and are also ideally suited for underfloor heating.

  4. Stick to calm, natural colours and set a few, but targeted accents with bright colours.
  5. Light: With table or floor lamps, you create cosy, indirect lighting and a relaxed mood
  6. Create cosiness with the use of plants or decoration with dried herbs and smaller branches in tinted glass vases

Scandinavian Style Living Room: A Warm and Cosy Design

Scandinavian style is the perfect choice for you if you are looking for a timeless and cosy interior for your living room. This interior style has a lot in common with the modern living room and is characterised by its natural materials, warm colours and simple lines.

A Scandinavian living room is characterised by light and warm colours such as white, beige, cream or beige - especially on the walls. Wooden furniture, natural textiles and plants round off the natural design. The simple lines and the use of natural materials create a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Here, for example, an unadorned, light and not too important sofa can serve as the focal point and centrepiece of your Skandi living room.

But Scandi Style is not only cosy, it is also practical. Functional pieces of furniture such as shelves, coffee tables and side tables are an integral part of Scandinavian design and offer plenty of storage space and work surface. In contrast to the modernly furnished living room, you should opt for matt lacquer finishes here so as not to introduce too much modern glamour and disrupt the overall picture.

Domestic and light-coloured woods are particularly suitable as floor coverings here: decors in the looks of spruce, birch, larch and pine with their corresponding, characteristic grains perfect the Scandi style. If you prefer to lay tiles, we recommend choosing light decors in beige, grey or taupe here as well.

  1. Organic shapes made of ceramic, earthenware or porcelain are ideal for small decorative vessels or vases.
  2. Here, too, the same applies as to the modern furnishing style: do not overload the living room with decorative pieces. Less is more!
  3. Patterns: Cushions, decorations and other textiles can be patterned. Here, too, go for clear shapes and geometric lines.
  4. Play with targeted accents in the decoration and go for muted colours or pastel shades, for example with candles and dried flowers or even the throw for the couch.
  5. The Scandi style lives not least from many indirect light sources, which provide the appropriate cosiness and warmth in your own four walls.

Retro Living Room - An unforgotten piece of nostalgia

The retro furnishing style is characterised by the revival of past style eras, especially the 1950s to 1970s. Retro style often uses pieces of furniture such as sofas, armchairs and tables from the 1950s and 1960s, often upholstered in bright colours and with eye-catching patterns. Overall, the colour palette is very colourful and rich in contrast, but still harmonious. Beige and brown tones often form the basis here, accentuated by gaudy shades such as orange, green, red or mustard yellow.

The pieces of furniture are often made of wood or plastic and have characteristic shapes, such as spherical feet or rounded armrests. Organic shapes were also not uncommon. Probably the best-known decorative piece is the so-called kidney table, which you can still often find today in second-hand furniture stores or at flea markets.

The retro style is a tribute to the past and is suitable for people who love nostalgia and appreciate a living environment with character. It's best to focus on individual key pieces such as an old sideboard for the TV or a living wall. The kidney table looks good as a side plate for the couch or cleverly placed plants and vases.

You can get creative with the flooring: Whether classic black and white tiling, colourful patterns or terrazzo, it's all part of the retro style. If you have already gone wild on the walls and used colourful patterned wallpaper, however, you should design the floor in a more restrained way so as not to overload the living room. Tiles in particular were all the rage back then and even today we still have many beautiful decors that fit perfectly into your retro living room.

Info box: Typical elements for the retro look in the living room

  1. Carpets and textiles in pastel or really bright colours with abstract patterns provide the right charm.
  2. Paintings in pop art style evoke a feeling of nostalgia.
  3. When it comes to furniture, you should go for soft, organic shapes. The wing chair with footstool is a must-have.
  4. Leather, chrome, plastic or stone - the matching decoration is diverse and often a combination of the materials mentioned.
  5. Lighting: Art Decó style lamps create a homely atmosphere
  6. Deco: Your parents' record player, a telephone with a dial or even an old gramophone bring the 60s back into your living room.
