Compliance with the LkSG efficiently organised: CLASSEN relies on digital solution from osapiens

The Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) requires companies to comprehensively monitor and document compliance with human rights and environmental standards along their supply chains. The CLASSEN Group optimises this process with the software solution from osapiens. In an interview with Matthias Jungblut, co-founder and CPO of osapiens, it becomes clear how the technology supports companies like CLASSEN.

Challenges and solutions

Companies have to fulfil a multitude of complex tasks at the same time due to the additional regulations, alongside their day-to-day business,’ explains Jungblut. This is where the osapiens solution comes into play: the osapiens HUB, a multi-client capable SaaS platform, offers a high degree of automation in the collection, management and reporting of ESG data (environmental, social, governance). Complying with the LkSG is a complex task that is becoming even more extensive due to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Our platform makes it possible to efficiently manage these requirements.’ Even if the EUDR applies to CERAMIN® While sustainability does not play a direct role for suppliers, it is of great importance for the production of laminate at CLASSEN itself and shows how the company implements sustainable measures across all areas.

Increased efficiency through automation

With more than 2,000 suppliers, the CLASSEN Group faces an enormous task. Jungblut explains: Our AI-based initial analysis prioritises suppliers, allowing employees to focus on identifying high-risk suppliers. Automated processes and daily risk analyses significantly reduce the manual workload.’ This is particularly important given that the EUDR requirements cover complex and sometimes sensitive information along the entire supply chain. The same applies to the German LkSG and the EU's recently adopted Corporate Social Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

Cooperation between osapiens and CLASSEN

The co-operation between osapiens and CLASSEN went smoothly and productively. From the outset, the collaboration was extremely pleasant. Thanks to the proactive approach of the internal project team, the onboarding was completed in less than two months,’ reports Jungblut. The close and constructive cooperation quickly added value for CLASSEN. Particularly noteworthy for Jungblut: ‘Classen is a pioneer in the industry. What sets the company apart is the firm anchoring of sustainability at all levels of the company.’ Indeed, Classen's sustainability efforts do not end with its suppliers. They continue with CERAMIN.® Production continues: at the Kaisersesch site, photovoltaic cells and a biomass power plant generate a large proportion of the energy needed for the site itself. Full recyclability rounds off the cycle for the entire product.

Outlook on the EU supply chain law

The upcoming EU Directive CSDDD will further increase the complexity of supply chain documentation. However, Matthias Jungblut is relaxed about this new EU-wide regulation: Our solution is built on the German LkSG and offers comprehensive risk and compliance management. Add-ons provide a deeper understanding of the supply chain, enabling companies like CLASSEN to efficiently implement the growing legal requirements.’

The CLASSEN Group shows how complex legal requirements can be efficiently and sustainably met by using modern software solutions. The partnership with osapiens is a prime example of how technology and collaboration lead to success. The same applies here that has applied for many years to the development of new products and the material CERAMIN® applies, because ultimately this is available to all market players in the flooring industry.
